MATCH REPORT - SELKENT LEAGUE 13-14 (Autumn): JR Spartans vs FC Sutton Dynamo Blue 3rd Nov 13

03/11/2013 18:34

Our sixth game of the season saw us back at home against FC Sutton Dynamo Blue for a 10am kick off. With a very blustry day we choose to kick into the wind, but with the slight slope of the pitch in our favour. The game started with the following line up of boys - Jack (GK), Shemar, George, Taran, Finlay, Alfie (Cpt) and Callum. The boys began strongly against our opponents, with Alfie, Finlay and Callum all looking to feed the ball through midfield and into a striking position. However we could quiet find the net for the first 10 minutes, then a long ball and bounce beat the FC SD Blue defence and Callum latched onto the through ball and powerfully drove the ball home for our first goal. SD Blue had chances too but Shemar, Taran and George had to dig deep at times to keep our oppenants out of our penalty box. When they did have a strike at goal Jack was there to safely gather the ball. There was some very strong tackling at times and poor Finlay came off worse for wear at one stage but remainded on the pitch. Callum then ran onto another great through ball to bag his second of the game.

Half Time Score : JR Spartans - 2, FC Sutton Dynamo Blue - 0

The second half started, as always, with some changes. Ben came on for Alfie, Shemar made way for Kaci, Lovell replaced Finlay and Wiliam was on for Callum. With the wind in our favour for the second half, we knew we could put further pressure on our opponents and so it was. The boys played really well with Ben and Lovell making some great runs down the left and right wings, with William continually looking to pounch onto a sweeping crosses into the box. George, Kaci and Taran also linked really well at the back with some lovely passing out from goal kicks and spreading the play across the pitch. Ben extended our lead shortly into the second half with a great shoot. This was soon followed by a goal mouth scramble and William poking the ball home, with Lovell following the ball closely in. With Taran making way for Alfie and Ben droping into midfiled we continued to defend hard with great tackling and possesional play out from the box from both George and Kaci.  Jack on occassions was called into action and made several very important stops to calm things at the back.

Managers comment :- Boys this was a another good performance, a clean sheet and still unbeated at home. There were lots of great individual performances, but we need to ensure we work as a team. Passing is the key to winning games and we need to ensure we keep working on this as this is how to unlock opponents midfields and defences. We also need to work on corners as we are not making the most of these opportunties.

That said I can't take away the fact that with three games left to the end of the Autumn season we are looking pretty strong.  It's up to us all to play our part and ensure we keep playing well, concentrating and thinking about the best ball to play.

A very big thank you goes George B for helping set up the goals first thing in the morning and to William for refereeing the game (Thanks guys your support is really appreciated).
