MATCH REPORT - FRIENDLY: Brockley County v JR Spartans - 21st Oct 12 (Away)

21/10/2012 17:02

Well this week we had a friendly match against league C opposition. After a disorganised start by our opponents (arriving late, only having 6 players, no match ball and no referee whistle) we finally got underway. To be fair, I agreed to play a six a-side match due to their numbers, which on reflection I wish I hadn't because this meant we had 4 boys as substitutes. Brockley scored almost immediately from the kick off, which I think may have been down to the smaller team set up as Brockley went straight down the middle of the pitch. Kaci and Finlay settled into a good partnership at the back with our ever present goalkeeper George between the sticks preventing a number of attacks. The midfield two of Callum and Jack showed how strong we can be with some great support work, passing and attacking football looking to put our lone striker William in on goal. William showed alot of determination chasing after every oppurtuntity and closing down the Brockley defence.  Several changes were made towards the latter stages of the first half with Shemar replacing Finlay, Lovell replacing Jack and Taran replacing Kaci. With the game being six a side there was a lot of space for players to run into and with Brockley having a couple of strong players and the ball breaking free to them they scored a total of four in the first half.

Half Time Score : Brockley County - 4, Junior Reds Spartans - 0

For the second half some experimental changes were made, with George not available for next weeks game Kaci was asked if he wanted to go in goal. This allowed George to play outfield in defence along with Ugo at right back. We started the second half well and were rewarded with a goal from our top goal scorer Callum, who struck the ball into the corner of the net. Brockley looked like they were tiring as we had a number of attempts on goal from Jack, Lovell and Callum. Several changes were made in the second half with Shemar back on for George in defence, Callum making way for William and Lovell making way for Finlay. Despite all our hard work we couldn't get the much needed second goal. Brockley managed to nick another two goals in the second half but overall we showed a stronger performance with great defending from George, Ugo and Shemar and good passing between the midfield of Lovell, Taran, Jack, Finlay with great performances up front from Callum and William. Not forgetting Kaci's debut in goal were he pulled off some great saves.

Full Time Score : Brockley County - 6, Junior Reds Spartans - 1

Managers Comment : Another difficult week, what with higher ranked opposition for our newly formed side and the need to continually change the team to ensure all the boys play a part in the game. I sincerely hope the boys understand that if they are taken off it's not because they are playing poorly it's about trying to be fair to all the boys at this age. It will take time to gel as a team and thats why this season may be a tough one, however the longer they train and play together the better the understanding will become. Lets hope we are back to League D opposition next week and are able to build on our win in that competition. Well done to all the boys and don't lose heart.
