MATCH REPORT - SELKENT LEAGUE 13-14 (Autumn): JR Spartans vs Eltham Lions 15th Sept 13

15/09/2013 18:54

Welcome back to all players, parents and guardians as we begin a new season with JR Spartans U10's. This year we have our own dedicated home ground at Danson Youth Centre, which we should say a big thank you to the club committee for their continued commitment to improving the facilities for the mini soccer within the football club.

We started the new campaign against a new team to the Selkent league Eltham Lions Athletic.  With a debut start for our new signing Alfie, our starting line up was as following :- Ben, Kaci, Finlay, Taran, Jack (cpt), Lovell and Alfie. The boys took a little time to get into their stride which saw Eltham have some early possesion. Due to great defending by Kaci, Finlay and Taran any danger was kept away from our goal which meant Ben wasn't troubled too often, but as ever when Ben was called into action he made some brilliant saves. Fortunately we started to grab hold of the game with Lovell, Jack and Alfie linking well at times. The boys efforts were finally rewarded when Lovell broke down the left hand side and fired a shot at goal, which went through the keepers legs and crawled across the line, for us to take the lead.  The goal obviously boosted the team and we had a number of other chances soon after taking the lead with Taran, Lovell, Jack and Alfie all going close.  Eltham fought hard and were determine not to give up. They were rewarded on the 19th minute when we failed to clear the ball from our penalty area and the ball we poked into the corner of Ben's goal from close range.

Half Time score: Junior Reds Spartans - 1, Eltham Lions Athletic - 1

To ensue that everyone got a chance to play, some changes were made for the start of the second half. William replaced Jack, Callum replaced Alfie and Shemar came on for Kaci. The boys were told to pass more in the half time talk and they certainly did this. Within the opening minutes of the second half Callum was put through and drilled the ball home to put us in the lead. William was outstanding on the right continually looking for defence splitting passes as well as working really hard in attack and defense (well played William). With pressure coming from both sides of the pitch William latched on to another through ball and slotted the ball home for our third goal. We were now looking in total control and with 7 minutes left Callum scored his second of the game and our fourth to seal the game for us. Jack came on for Finlay and Alfie for Lovell towards the end of the game.

Full Time score: Junior Reds Spartans - 4, Eltham Lions Athletic - 1

Managers Comments: Well what can I say, we have started the new Autumn season in the same manor as we finished last season. There were great performances again in every area of the pitch. As a team, if we can keep working on our passing game then I beleive the boys will up the top end of the table at the end of the seasson. We need to keep our focus and continue to work hard in training to ensure we get these results week after week.

A big thank you goes to William for refereeing todays game and to Sukh for sorting out the match card.
