MATCH REPORT - SELKENT LEAGUE (Autumn): Beacons White v JR Spartans - 11th Nov 12 (Away)

11/11/2012 20:02

Our sixth league game took place on Remembrance Sunday and before kick off both team observed a minutes silence. Based on our previous form and those of our opponents this looked like a fixture we could get some more points from. George was made captain for the game and won the toss. With a debut start for Ben C, he was soon in the action making a great save from a Beacons players shot. With about 7 mins gone Jack put Callum through on the right, Callum crossed the ball for Lovell who couldn't quite get a shot away on goal. On 12 minutes Taran also came close with a shot that just went wide from a cross supplied by Jack. We then had to withstand a lot of pressure from Beacons White. They first struck the left hand post of our goal only for the ball to be safely gathered by Ben. With 14 mins on the clock George made a great clearance off the line which again Ben gathered, only for the resulting throw out to be pounced on from a Beacons player and their shot fired into our net.

A couple of subs were then made Finlay came on for Lovell and Kaci came on for Jack. With 16 mins on the clock Beacons get their second goal of the game.

Dispite being two goals down we continued to play well with George & Shemar putting some great strong tackles in to break up a number of Beacons attacks.

Half Time Score : Beacons White - 2, JR Spartans - 0

At half time a couple of substitutions were made, with William coming on for Callum and Ugo coming on for Taran. We started to build pressure on Beacons goal and had some brilliant break away chances from Finlay and William. Ugo started well in midfield and dribbled the ball round three players to put through a great pass to Kaci. (Great footwork Ugo). 6 minutes into the second half Finlay put a wonderful ball through to William only for William's shot to go just wide. Despite all the pressure and several corners we just couldn't get that much needed first goal. With us continuing to pressure Beacons goal they caught us on the break and scored again to take their score to three. A few last minutes subs were made with Taran / Jack / Callum and Lovell rejoining the game for George, Kaci, Ugo & William.    The boys still tried hard to get back in the game and with the final whistle looming Jack came close by hitting the side netting from a short corner taken by Finlay. But unfortunately it wasn't our day.

Full Time Score : Beacons White - 3, JR Spartans - 0

Managers Comment : I have to confess before the game I thought we would win this game. The score did flatter the opposition I don't beleive they were three goals better than us. On the positives there was a great debut performance from Ben, who pulled off some great saves and our passing game is improving. Areas we need to work on are shooting and closing down the oposition.

Special thanks again to William for sorting out the match card and also to Nicola for taking some great pictures.

Captain - George

Man of the Match - Taran
