MATCH REPORT - SELKENT LEAGUE (Spring): JR Spartans vs JR Warriors - 6th Jan 13 (Home)

We started a New Year and a new season against our sister side Junior Reds Warriors in the opening game of the Selkent League Spring Season. After finishing 8th in the Autumn season (subject to some games still to be played) we had high hopes of reversing the 2-1 defeat we had against Warriors back in Sept 12.  We started well and looked confident on the ball. As the game progressed we began to absorb alot of pressure, until the 8th minute when Warriors Raj received the ball from a throw in and his shot went into the right hand corner of the goal from the edge of the box. The defensive pairing of George and Shemar with Finlay playing in a central defensive midfield position continued to prevent Warriors getting a clear oppurtunity on goal. However on the 18th minute a cross from the right hand side saw the ball just pass a diving Ben, only to see the ball bundled across the line by Warriors Aaron J. The midfield three of Callum, Lovell and Jack did have oppurtunities from several corners and some great play wide on the wings but unfortunately we couldn't get the ball into their net. With half time looming the Warriors got a third from a shot from Lucus just outside of the area which went high into the corner of our goal.

The second half began with William and Ugo coming on in midfield for Callum and Jack. Shortly into the second half the Warriors get a throw in on the left hand side, unfortunately the ball didn't get cleared from the box and is shot home at close range for our opponents fourth goal. The second half continued much as the first half. Ben pulled off some great saves in the second half to prevent us going further behind. As did all the boys in terms of tackling. George came off after 12 minutes after being caught in the face by the ball and Jack rejoined the match. With 8 minutes left Finlay tried to blocked the ball on the line only for it to just bounce off him and the post. With 5 mins left Finlay and Lovell made way for Callum and George to rejoin the game.

Managers Comment: This was a dissappointing result as I had high hopes we could really push on in this new season. It was a tough game but I felt five goals flattered our opponents, although they were getting stronger in terms of their results towards the end of last season. For us we really need to have a go at goal when we get the oppurtunities. Myself and John will be working on shooting, throw in's, positioning at goal kick and corners and looking to firm up some keys positions.
